Exodus 33:12-17

God asked Moses to take His people to the promised land and he knew Moses by his name and Moses had found favor in His sight. But God did not clearly mentioned that who would accompany them, and so Moses asked God to provide His presence, for this that God knew him by name, that is God had chosen him and he had found favor in His sight.

He said that the presence of God with His people will be a clear confirmation that Israelites were His special people and recipients of His favor.

And God granted favor to an entire nation because of His favor on one man, which supported Matthew 5:13-16, where Jesus said to his disciples that you are the salt and light of the world. That only a small amount of salt is enough to bring flavor and a small flame can light a room.

True Followers of Christ seek to live always in His presence

It is because the presence of Christ in their lives make them aware of their actions and thoughts. Once one becomes a true follower of Christ he is aware of his wrong doings. A true follower of Christ will not ask forgiveness for his wrong doings but will be restless all the while he’d be taking wrong means to execute his affairs. And will repent so that he could remain in the presence of Jesus.

Jesus loves sin and sinners. This is a very strong statement to be addressed in a casual way. If we see this statement in the context of rape which is a sin and a rapist who is a sinner, the relevance changes. There is no reason to be standing with a sin or a sinner, but Christ stands with those who have repentance for their sins. Christ accepts the sinners once they repent and Christ knows His people. A satan will remain a satan, an evil spirit will remain an evil spirit doesn’t matter if it attends the Church on every Sunday and holds a good reputation among the society. But unless it repents, it cannot be a follower of Christ.

Seeking His presence of Christ is not an outward exhibition to fellow men but an inward acceptance of His grace. He knows everyone of us outside the Church as well. It doesn’t matter how holy or courteous we may sound in the Church to prove ourselves to be more Godly than others, but He knows us all the while for the entire week, entire year in our personal lives as well.

He is always present around us and He sees us everywhere. He also sees our efforts to change for good. It is what the beginning step of becoming his true followers. A true follower will always try to change himself, will analyze, will talk to Him in silence for he knows that He is present and he wishes to always live in His presence. And His true followers seek to live in His presence through righteousness. For righteousness is the only thing that brings one closer to Him.

Sometime we aren’t even aware that it is Him who is guiding us and lifting us, for He knows that we are His true followers and so He guides us and leads us to the path of righteousness.
